Sea Pigs and Northern Lights - just another weekend in North Norfolk!

This weekend we took a trip along the coast to see the Atlantic Grey seals at Horsey, latin name: Halichoerus grypus, which translated means Hook-nosed sea pigs, seems a bit of a harsh name considering how cute the pups are!We were cautious about not harassing the seals or getting too close so we sat down a fair distance from them and took some shots on a long telephoto lens but before long the curious pups actually started approaching us and allowed me to get some lovely shots.  It was fascinating sitting there, just us and the seals, listening to their various vocalisations, watching a pup suckle on it's mother while another played with a plastic fishing net float like a dog would a ball.  In the distance a bull was working on 'making more pups' with a reluctant female, it was like stepping into a David Attenborough program, absolutely magical. Last night I had an alert on my phone from the Aurora Alerts app that there was a geomagnetic storm occurring and the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis may be visible so we wrapped up warm, grabbed a camera & tripod and headed down to the beach.  It wasn't as clear to the naked eye as it is in these images since the camera can collect a lot more light on a 30 second exposure than the human eye but it was still spectacular to see as ever...
