2012 Olympic Torch Relay comes to North Norfolk - 2012 Olympics Photography
Yesterday was a day I'll never forget (for all the right reasons!), the Olympic torch relay came to North Norfolk and to be honest I was a bit nervous - I had been booked onto two slots (East Rudham & Aylsham) on the Media Truck that drives along in front of the torch bearers to get shots for Just Regional magazines that I do some work for (big thank you to Gay Webster & Lee Todd for arranging this for me) and was also hired to get some shots when the torch arrived at Cromer pier. The schedules were very tight and the Olympic convoy waits for no man so I knew I was going to have to shift between venues. It was yesterday that I really appreciated not selling my motorbike and had some of the most fun on it yet - riding along at the rear of the motorcade with the Police Outriders was a real buzz! The first part of the relay I photographed was at East Rudham to photograph Lisa Massingham carrying the torch, I've known Lisa & her family for years so it was quite emotional to be honest to see Lisa running with the torch. Lisa was nominated here.Below, Tonya, another friend of mine carried the torch on part of the Norwich route, you can read Tonya's nomination here. Read about Tonya's charity Let's Do It AnywayBelow, on the bus with Tonya also carrying the torch through Norwich was - Kate Walsh, GB & England Ladies Hockey team captain for eight years and 2000 & 2008 Olympian - a true sporting legend. What better way of winding down after such an amazing day than sitting outside the Crown Inn, Sheringham with a cold beer, watching the sunset with my favourite local band playing live - The Yow Yows are just brilliant, musically extremely tight, great fun, plenty of banter from frontlady Jade - face of an angel, voice of a rock goddess, the silky smooth harmony vocals & lead guitar of David, the thumping basslines from Rob aka Electric Bob (the single coolest bassplayer this side of West Runton), Banjo Jim with occasional banjo joining in (yep, duelling banjo's are on the menu!) and of course Vince - the rapping drummer - has to be seen to be believed - a man of many talents. Their choice of songs is spot on, such a refreshing change from the usual pub band stuff (no 'Sex on Fire' here thank you!) - if you need a band for a party/wedding/bar mitzvah then you NEED to book The Yow Yows.(PS. Guys we need to have that chat about commission). As you can see below they have acquired an olympic torch - Lisa came to the pub to celebrate her amazing day carrying the torch & we all had a blast, fingers crossed no one videoed me dancing....Below, yep, I couldn't resist having a grip'n'grin with the torch! The full gallery of my Norfolk Olympic Torch relay photos are here.
