New photography for the Garden Kitchen Café, Hoveton • Commercial food photographers in Norfolk
A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be over at the new Garden Kitchen Café photographing food for an old friend and very talented chef - Alex Firman (aka AlexChef).I hadn't seen Alex for about 20 years until a wedding at Chaucer Barn last year where I was photographing and Alex was cooking. He has built an incredible reputation for his culinary skills, catering for weddings, events and parties. His latest venture, alongside the outside catering, is the Garden Kitchen Café in the grounds of Hoveton Hall. It's a charming little spot with inside and al fresco eating areas and Alex has some great plans for the place. One of the great perks of photographing food is that once it's cooked and photographed it's positively rude not to at least taste the food (if not devour the whole plate) and with food this good I didn't hold back!I was in for a treat as Alex's cooking is incredible, one dish that really stood out for me was the slow-cooked beef cheeks with marrowbone butter on a bed of mashed parsnip. It was absolutely delicious, melt in the mouth, with amazing textures and the most incredible savoury umami flavours. I have since tried to replicate it at home and got close but it wasn't as good as Alex's original version, just divine!
