Old lifeboat goes for a flight...

It was blustery early morning start for many in Sheringham today as the old Oakley class Sheringham Lifeboat, called The Manchester Unity of Oddfellows, was finally transferred to her final resting place at the town's lifeboat museum.I clearly remember the excitement as a boy when we would hear the maroons going off and would jump on our bikes and cycle down to the cliffs just in time to see this great boat being launched.  Many of her old crew were on hand at 6am this morning to transport their old lifeboat to the Mo on the promenade, led by the museum's dedicated curator Tony Sadler.Below are a few shots of the boat being taken by crane down into the space in the museum (unfortunately I missed the slow transfer through town at 6am as it was sounding pretty windy outside and my bed was far too warm!)Below, museum curator Tony Sadler with the Oakley just before being lifted in (ie. the boat being lifted into the museum, not Tony being lifted into the boat!).Below, 'Yogi' Dent in the wheelhouse of the Oakley.  Amazing at how intact all of the equipment is after all these years (that's the boat I'm referring to, not Yogi).  Must learn how to write better!Below, Tony being interviewed by one of the many press & media people that came along, and the shot next to it shows ex-lifeboat helmsman Clive Rayment taking the strain.A sigh of relief as she is finally lowered into position without incident, a job very well done! For the full gallery of shots from this morning's events click here.
